Evening 10s Round 11 and racing round-up

Back on Saturday 13th July father and son Paul and Michael Valks were two Lewes Wanderers among a field of 25 riders for a Brighton Excelsior CC 10-mile time-trial.  Michael finished 15th in a time of 24 minutes and 38 seconds, while Paul was 24th in 28:22.

The following morning the same club hosted a 25-mile event in which Duncan Fuller came 21st out of 42 in a time just 3 seconds inside the hour.

That same day up near Tring on the A41 Paul Valks and Nick Dwyer were among 139 starters for a Veteran Time-Trials Association (London & Home Counties) 10 mile event.  This time Paul posted a far quicker time of 26:31, but Nick beat his own club record set 7 years ago on the same course by 8 seconds as he won the event in a staggering time of 19 minutes and 9 seconds at an average of 31.332mph!

Twenty-one riders turned up for Round 11 of Lewes Wanderers’ series of 10-mile time-trials on the evening of Monday 15th July.  Clear winner on the night was Martin Baddeley in a time of 23 minutes and 18 seconds. Paul Fletcher (23:48) just pipped Richard Burchett (23:50) to the runners-up position, but going into the 12th and final round Richard still holds the series lead with an average time for his best six rides of 23:08 to Paul’s 23:15.

Club Chairman Dom Lowden was 4th in 24:11, just ahead of Dan Street (24:17), Joe Benians (24:32) and Ed Tuckley (24:38).  Fastest female was 9th placed Kate Thomas in 26:51; Sue Collett was 16th in 27:57.

Nick Dwyer was back in action on the evening of Wednesday 17th July for an a3crg 10-mile event.  Such was the strength in depth of the field of 59 riders that his time of 19:26 only granted him joint 11th place.  Clubmate Brett Davis was 31st, but his time of 20:27 equalled his personal best.
