Back on Sunday 9th November Ryan Machin ventured as far as Leicestershire to sate his desire to race.  The event was part of the Leicestershire Cyclo-Cross League held at Stable House, Lutterworth and promoted by MI Racing.  It was worth the trip as Ryan (racing for Destination Bike RT) claimed a strong 8th place from 28 entrants in the race for men in their forties.

A fortnight later Georgina Wise (Destination Bike RT) travelled to Gravesend Cyclopark to compete in the South East Regional Cyclo Cross Championships.  It may have been a bright and sunny day, but an already technical course was made more tricky by rain ahead of the event turning a lot of the grass banks into treacherous muddy slopes.

After three laps settling into the race Georgina got into her groove over the final two circuits to meet the chequered flag in a fine 5th place out of the eight females under 40 and 12th from 23 women overall.

The penultimate round of the Challenge Tyres London & South East Cyclo Cross League was held in the grounds of Herne Hill Velodrome on Sunday 25th January and promoted by Dulwich Paragon CC.  Heavy rain in the preceding week left the course under water in places and muddy in many more.

From 7th on the grid in the women’s race Georgina Wise (Destination Bike RT) gained a place on the first of four laps and succeeded in holding that position to the chequered flag, which also gave her 10th from 28 women overall.

In the race for men over 50 Dan Street had a far more eventful afternoon.  From 8th on the grid he gained three places on the opening lap and another on the second circuit.  From sitting comfortably in fourth a rear puncture on the third of the five laps necessitated a dive into the pits for a spare wheel.  Possibly unconnected, but after that he experienced a series of dropped chains plus an accumulation of mud on what was a fatter tyre which cost him at least a minute on each circuit as he dropped to 10th place with a lap to go and a disappointing 20th at the finish.
