In Memory of Chris Hough

With deep sadness, we share the heartbreaking news of the passing of our dear friend and long-standing club member, Chris Hough.

Chris tragically lost his life on 15 January while cycling on the A26 near Clayhill. The circumstances surrounding the accident are under investigation, and Sussex Police are appealing for information, particularly from anyone who witnessed the incident or has relevant footage.

Chris was a cornerstone of the Wanderers community. Over the years, he immersed himself in every facet of cycling: time trialling, road racing, mountain biking, track, and cyclo-cross. He had a special love for riding fixed-wheel bikes, and he recently poured his passion into building a new one.

Beyond his cycling accomplishments, Chris was known for his vast knowledge of the sport, his witty sense of humour, and his ability to brighten any ride with his good company. He was not just a clubmate but a true friend to so many of us.

Chris leaves behind his wife, Liz, and their son, Patrick. Our thoughts are constantly with them and all who loved him.

A Final Farewell

Chris’s funeral was held on Thursday 27th February at St Peter’s Church, Hamsey (Old Hamsey Church) at the end of Ivors Lane, and many Wanderers were able to attend. Several followed the hearse on bikes to honour Chris’s memory.

Following the burial, there was a reception at the family home in Hamsey.

The club made a donation to Preston Park Youth Cycling Club in lieu of flowers as the family wished.

Rest in peace, Chris. You will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
