Evening 10 Round 8
On Monday 20th July Lewes Wanderers hosted Round 8 of their series of 10-mile time-trials and their second 2-up, where riders race as pairs aiming to share the work and achieve a time better than they might individually. Just as with the first 2-up the event proved exceptionally popular with 31 racers taking to the start line, with 12 pairs and 7 racing solo.
It was a close call, but fastest for the sixth consecutive event was Calum Elms whose effort of 21 minutes and 35 seconds proved two seconds faster than the leading duo of George Bentley (Sussex Revolution VC) and Ali Robinson (Brighton Mitre CC) who also took the road-bike class.

Second fastest pairing and third overall were Chris Barker and Steve Coombs (SRVC) with 22:25 ahead of second fastest solo rider Richard Burchett (22:51). Having proven so closely matched when racing against one another in previous weeks Chris Hurcomb and Dan Street made a natural pairing and they scooped third place on that podium with 23:10.
Fastest pair on time-trial bikes were the Eastbourne Rovers duo of Thomas Bowden and Iain Brogden with 23:21, while the Brighton Mitre CC pairing of Karla Boddy and Caitlin Bower were fifth fastest duo and fastest all female pairing with a superb 23:53.
Adam Goward was partnered with Tom Moss (Southborough & District Wheelers) and they recorded an excellent 24:13 for sixth pairing just ahead of Neil Edwards and Darren Haynes with 24:30.
Eighth quickest duo and second on TT-machinery were Ben Gregory and Clem Simms (Heathfield CC) with 25:17 while not far behind them and third solo rider Richard Brazier set a new personal best of 25:51 to also finish second in the solo TT-bike class.
Olivia Webb teamed up with Maddie Jackson (Eastbourne Rovers CC) to take 9th pairing overall and second all-female pairing with 26:05, while third fastest duo on TT-bikes were the Eastbourne Rovers pairing of Erica Martin and Ian Weston with 26:58.
