Chris Hurcomb, Member number 75

75 years, 75 active members

Fittingly, in our 75th anniversary year, we welcome our 75th active member. Step forward, Chris Hurcomb – the newest face in the club and a rider whose interests echo the variety of riding now thriving at Lewes Wanderers.

From Road to Cross-Country to Gravel and Back

“I’ve been riding bikes all my life,” said Chris. Originally a road rider, Chris was drawn into cross-country mountain biking around 2010 and was transfixed. A few years of enduro racing followed, before he gravitated back towards the road via gravel bikes – the discipline that has now become his favourite.

These days, Chris enjoys nothing more than a big day out on gravel, mixing on- and off-road terrain into proper adventures. On either side of gravel, cross-country MTB and road riding are still very much part of his cycling life.

Favourite Loops

His top local loop blends both worlds: the iconic Ditchling Beacon road climb paired with the stunning trails of Castle Hill Nature Reserve. “It’s the mix that keeps it exciting,” he says.

Why Lewes Wanderers?

“I love all aspects of cycling and, living in Lewes, I wanted to be part of the local club – riding with like-minded people and taking my fitness to the next level.” Chris also hopes to pin on a number and represent LWCC in races and events.

Welcome to the club, Chris – here’s to many miles together.
