Lewes Wanderers Training Weekend – Friday 22nd – Monday 25th February 2008

Following its success last year, I will be putting together a training weekend for Wanderers over the weekend of 22nd – 25th February 2008. This date has primarily been chosen so that it clashes with the Mad Jack Fuller Audax and will also provide a link to the Sunday club run. Richard and I have engineered this so that as many Wanderers as possible can meet up and ride together.

To start, let us look back to last year... For some reason the training weekend seemed to get a reputation for being a burn up, this was not the case at all, average speeds were around 16mph and the routes were designed in the main for circuits so that people could do as little or as much as they wanted. From memory Stephen Long and Chris Martin rode all 4 days last year.

So to 2008…

Friday 22nd February - Meeting point, Chelwood Gate Village Hall – 10am The ride will take in the Circuit of Danehill with extensions to Ashdown Forest for those that want a bit extra. You can ride anything from 17 miles to a maximum that will likely be about 50.

Saturday 23rd February - Mad Jack Fuller Audax – Starts at Hailsham at 9am. 120 km, lots of climbing and costs Ł4.50 to enter. You need to enter in advance for this as it is organised by Audax UK.
Sunday 24th February - This day is designed with every club member in mind with a variety of meeting points (particularly for those tired from doing the Mad Jack) and many different ride options. It would be good to get as many Wanderers as possible for the joint ride from Chailey. The usual club runs will start in Lewes and Uckfield at 9am. The club runs will proceed to Chailey Village Hall for 9:45am. Chailey Village Hall will be the meeting point for anyone wanting a shortish ride or who wants a later start. Here, the rides will merge and proceed en masse to Washbrooks for elevenses. The training ride will more than likely continue on from here.
Monday 25th February - Meet at Bodle Street Green Village Hall to start at 10am. This will involve a lap or two of the Hardriders course. Probably about 35 miles.

Feel free to just turn up on the day, although I would appreciate an indication of numbers so if you can please contact me in advance. I would love to have an increase upon last years event and get even more riders this year and actively encourage all members to come and ride as few or as many days as they would like.

Please note, no car parks or halls have been booked, so if the hall is in use, be prepared to park elsewhere and ride to the Hall which we will use as our meeting point. Also, be ready to ride as there are no changing rooms.

The Worthing Winter Warmer & The Mad Jack Fuller

The Worthing Winter Warmer is on the 2nd Feb, starting from Ashington and organised by Mick Irons. The Mad Jack Fuller is on the 23rd Feb, starting from Hailsham and organised by Mark Heffer. Both events are run under audax regs. and entry forms can be downloaded from the Audax website www.audax.uk.net or contact Richard Meed for a copy.

Due to road works and traffic lights on the course the Circuit of Danehill will not be run on Sunday 29th April. A new date will be booked and published ASAP. The Committee apologises for the late cancellation, but only just got confirmation of the traffic lights and it is not feasible at such sort notice to change the course. Posted 22nd April 2007

The Worthing Excelsior Open 25 mile event on the 20th May has a new promoter from that stated in the handbook, Mel Roberton (address below). The CTT website has been updated. All other details are unchanged.
