September Round-Up

Dave Pollard's 2nd in the ESCA 25, gave him an excellent victory in the ESCA BAR Competition, especially after finishing 2nd last year to Simon Prior. On the Sussex CA front Chris Martin finished 2nd to Andy Payne in the BAR Competition. Horry Hemsley won the Vets BAR Competition on Standard with Chris finishing 2nd. Chris, Horry and Peter Baker, won both the Senior and Vets Standard BAR Team Awards.

Circuit of Chailey 18 Miles
on Sunday the 26th September

On wet roads, but otherwise good conditions for the time of year, Shane Faulkner won the Circuit of Chailey just missing the course record held by Ivan Luck (44m12s set in 1994) by three seconds. An excellent ride by Peter Baker who was the only rider to get close to Shane, gave him 2nd and the 1st handicap award. Andrew (one of the three Comben's in the race) picked up the 2nd handicap award. Ron Rogers won the Vets Standard award, adding it to his already substantial collection.

August 1999

August Round-Up

Dave Pollard achieved his goal and broke the Club 50 mile Record in style on the fast Essex course. Dave only needs to finish the ESCA 25 in September to win the ESCA BAR. Chris Martin broke the Club Vets Std Record (at 41) in the Sussex 12 hour. Peter Baker and Horry Hemsley teamed up with Chris to take the Team Award. This is the Club's first Open Team win this year! We do not seem to have the strength in depth of previous seasons and it is very rare to see all our fast men on the same start sheet. I hope we can organise ourselves a little better next year, we could learn something from the Eastbourne Rovers?! Ron Rogers broke his own Vets Std Record at 25 miles, can we get him to ride a 12 hour next season? On a positive note we have had Ten New Club Records set this season. Also we have a new fast member in Don Parker who won the Hcp award in his first race as a Wanderer.

Old Portlians CC 25 miles G25/18
on Monday the 30th August

Shane Faulkner produced his fastest Sussex 25 of the year to finish 10th. Shane still needs a slightly faster 25 if he is to achieve his ambition of improving on his Short Distance BAR winning average of last year. A 56m38s or better should do?

2-up Evening Ten
on Monday the 2nd August

Paul Hunt and Mark Winton teamed up to win the Wanderers 2-up Evening Ten, beating the father and son Burgess team into second place. Steve was caught shouting to Mark to slow down! Peter Baker with his young daughter Sarah, on the family tandem had to stop twice when a pedal fell off the machine, costing them a sub 30 minute ride. Phill and Laurie seemed pleased with their time, But Bob Comben blamed an extra and unwanted couple of stone for slowing him and Larry.
