Quiz Night Friday 8th October 1999 at the Roebuck Inn, Laughton
62 people competed in a successful and enjoyable quiz night. Organised into teams of four, our members, friends and families were joined by teams from various other Sussex Cycling Clubs. A team from The Southborough Wheelers won the quiz with an amazing 84/100. The Baker family with a mixture of youth and experience came second with 69/100. Horry Hemsley won a bottle of Champagne for the one off prize, Horry being the only person there to get the correct answer to the question: 'How many Tour de France Yellow Jerseys did Eddy Merckx win?' (Answer 96). Same time same place next year? Has this ever Happened to you?
Why do the none cycling public think that our sport consists of two events 'The Tour de France' and 'The London to Brighton'? Whilst out training for the National '24 Hour' I stopped after 90 miles at a Little Chef for a cup of tea and was asked if I was training for the 'London to Brighton'. After the '24 Hour' I received an e-mail from my brother in Australia, I enclose the first paragraph: "I have finally got round to reading your account of the 24 hour thing. Seems like you had a pretty good time. Judith and I were watching the Tour yesterday, and she asked me the obvious one about you maybe entering next year! I of course pointed out that it was a bit light weight for you, not really long enough. She said "oh". Never talk to woman about sport." What can be done about this public ignorance? It's one thing being asked if I ride 'The Tour', but the 'London to Brighton', now that's pushing it! Would you ask some guy hacking round a local golf course if he had played the Masters? The sad thing is you could tell most people that your season consisted of 'The Tour' and the 'London to Brighton' and they would believe you (try it). The other thing is no I don't use drugs, yes it's called EPO.... Read this before you look at the photo
How much does this guy like biking?! This ad appeared in the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette on Thursday June 17th. The illusion was quickly noticed (look at the bike seat) and action was taken to correct the advertisement, but not before the image of this very excited cyclist made it to the news-stand. - Submitted by Bob Comben. No clothes just a large red helmet
One of my colleagues at work gave me this photo, this is the kind of stuff they do in his club! I think he might find life as a Wanderer a little tame? Meet the Wanderers new secret weapon Will our latest signing clean up on the time trialing scene this year?
